## In short

- Three lines in a terminal add the hosted Super Artifacts MCP server to Hermes Agent, sign it in with a short code and switch it on.
- You open the printed address on any device, type the code, and the page names the account your agent will publish to. Connecting publishes nothing.
- Within a minute of the third line, Hermes has the tools to publish pages, share them and read what visitors submit. No restart and no `/reload-mcp`.
- Because there is no browser to open, the same lines work over SSH and on a headless host.
- You revoke the connection from your agents page at any time.

You connect Hermes Agent to Super Artifacts with three lines in a terminal. You open an address, type a short code, press Allow, and Hermes can publish pages, forms and trackers at private links that open on a phone. It takes about two minutes.

## What do you need before you start?

A Super Artifacts account, Hermes Agent installed, and a terminal window you can type into. Type the lines yourself, in a terminal window, not through an agent's tool call, and do not ask your agent to connect itself.

## How do you connect it?

Type these three lines one at a time, each as its own command, never joined together. If you use a Hermes profile, start every line with that profile's command instead of `hermes`; using a profile on only some of them signs in the wrong place.

```bash
hermes config set mcp_servers.super-artifacts '{"url":"https://superartifacts.app/mcp","auth":"oauth","oauth":{"flow":"device"},"enabled":false}'
hermes mcp login super-artifacts
hermes config set mcp_servers.super-artifacts.enabled true
```

1. **Tell Hermes about the server**

   The first line saves the server switched off. If you installed the plugin, this stops its unsigned copy trying and failing.

2. **Sign in with a code**

   The second line prints `MCP OAuth: open https://superartifacts.app/oauth/device on any device.` and a code such as `Code: XXXX-XXXX`. Open the address on any device, your phone included, and type the code. The page names the account your agent will publish to; press **Allow** only if that account is yours, then wait for Hermes to say `Authenticated`. The code lasts five minutes. Connecting publishes nothing.

3. **Switch it on**

   The third line switches the server on. The tools connect within a minute with the new key. There is no restart and no `/reload-mcp`: ask in your open chat or a new one.

If the tools still are not there, run the same three lines again. It is safe to repeat.

## What should you ask first?

Ask it to publish something small and private, so you see the whole loop once. Copy the prompt below and paste it into Hermes after it has written something worth keeping.

**Publish this as a private page**

```prompt
Check which Super Artifacts account you are publishing as, then publish this as a private page and give me its URL.
```

The agent tells you the account, then returns a link. Open it signed in and the page shows. Open it in a private window and you get a sign-in page instead, because a new artifact is private until you share it.

## How do you connect over SSH or on a headless machine?

Run the same three lines. Nothing opens a browser, so SSH, a Linux box with no display and a gateway all work the same way: open the printed address on any device and type the code.

If the code times out, run the three lines again for a fresh one.

## How do you disconnect it?

Open your [agents page](https://superartifacts.app/agents). The connection is listed as **Hermes Agent**; revoke it there and the token stops working. To remove the entry from the machine as well, run `hermes mcp remove super-artifacts`. The plugin's own unsigned copy can reappear; run the three lines again to connect.

## What does this not do yet?

The sign-in needs a terminal. There is no way to do it from inside a chat.

Hermes runs these tools without asking first, unless you set `trust: untrusted` on the server. A new artifact is private by default, but sharing, changing who can open one and deleting are tool calls like any other, so say plainly in your prompt when you want them and when you do not.

## Questions

### Do I need an API key to connect Hermes Agent?

No. Hermes signs in with OAuth using a code you type on a web page, and stores the token itself. Nothing secret goes into a config file by hand.

### Can I install Super Artifacts from the Hermes plugin catalog?

Yes, Super Artifacts is listed there. A plugin cannot sign itself in, though, so you still run the three lines in this post.

### Who can open what my agent publishes?

Only your account and the people you share it with. Artifacts are private by default, and they stay that way until you ask to share one.

### Why did Hermes ask "Continue without authentication?"

That is the older `hermes mcp add` command, run where Hermes could not open a browser. Use the three lines in this post instead, which sign in with a code and never need a browser.
